I started working on the idea that maybe I could hang them off of screws but what I really needed was a neat old piece of wood to make this really work. I love to decorate with metallics and my Christmas tablescape is full of mixed metals in silver, gold and copper. The sugared fruit and white taper candles really pop against the metals. To add a rustic touch and offset all the glam, I added wood slice chargers and table runners.

First thing I thought of first was function: I hated having to move all of our yard furniture every time we mowed so I wanted something our furniture could sit on. Second thing was safety, I wanted a fire pit we didn’t have to worry about still smoldering a little bit when we went to bed. Also, I didn’t want a fire pit that (if not used) would fill full of grass and weeds. Everything pointed to the free pile of sand we had in our backyard, we made ourselves a beachy fire pit!
