If you love asparagus, then you will love this amazingly crispy and delicious bacon wrapped balsamic asparagus. This impressive side dish recipe takes minutes to prepare but looks so fancy!
Hi everyone! Amanda here from Old House to New Home, sharing my family’s new favorite side dish recipe, Bacon Wrapped Balsamic Asparagus.
An unforgettable vegetable side dish
I am always looking to spice up the vegetable side dish recipes to go alongside our dinners. We love veggies, but I sometimes get into a roasted broccoli rut and find myself making that more often than not. We love asparagus and I recently had some staring at me from the fridge and a half-pound of bacon that needed to be used. Inspiration struck and this Bacon Wrapped Balsamic Asparagus was born!
I have wrapped green bean bundles in bacon in the past, but the asparagus is even better. The ends get super crispy and just fall apart in your mouth. The bacon imparts tons of salty flavor and the balsamic drizzle balances it out with some sweetness. It looks fancy enough to serve alongside a steak dinner but no one will know how easy it really was!
If you’re making this to put on an appetizer tray or buffet, make a batch of bacon wrapped chicken bites to serve alongside them. They’ll both be a hit with bacon lovers!
Best type of bacon to use
I recommend using thick-cut bacon because it will cook and crisp up better. You can even use seasoned bacon, such as the hickory-smoked or black pepper. It will all add lots of flavor! You do want to serve these bundles with a knife and fork because you have to cut through the bacon!
Balsamic Drizzle or Glaze
You can find the balsamic drizzle in the condiment aisle. It is not the same as balsamic vinegar. You want the already cooked down version of the vinegar. It is much thicker and sweeter than the vinegar.
Some people call it balsamic glaze, it’s the same thing.
Of course, you can always make your own too. You just put 2 cups of balsamic vinegar in a saucepan with 1/2 cup brown sugar. Let it come to a gentle boil.
Then, reduce the heat to medium-low and stir occasionally while it thickens. This should take about 20 minutes.
