Cheddar Bunny Carrots: A Fun Alternative to Easter Candy
THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. PLEASE SEE OURÂ FULL DISCLOSURE POLICYÂ FOR DETAILS.
Cheddar Bunny Carrots are a great alternative to all the sugary candy typically associated with Easter baskets. Your child will love this festive treat.
Easter baskets are typically full of delicious chocolate bunnies, candy eggs, jelly beans, marshmallow chicks… the list of sugary treats could go on and on. If you’re looking for an alternative to the usual high sugar Easter goodies, search no further. Today we’re sharing how to make cheddar bunny carrots.
A few years ago, we were inspired by a great idea from Loralee Lewis to create carrots using cheddar snack crackers. The Cheddar Bunny Carrots are simple to make and look so cute in a child’s Easter basket. They were a big hit with our toddler.

What you need:
- Annie’s Homegrown Cheddar Bunnies
- Clear cellophane treat bags
- Clear tape
- Twist ties (green or white)
- Ribbon
- Green paper Easter grass
Instructions:
1. Create a cone shaped treat bag.
Loralee Lewis suggests using cone-shaped Wilton Disposable 12 Inch Decorating Bags. I didn’t have any of those on hand, so I made my own using regular clear cellophane bags. To create a cone shape from a regular bag, fold one of the bottom corners and tape it, as shown: Next, fold the tail end around the far side of the bag and tape it as well. You now have a clear, cone-shaped bag. Once you fill the bags with cheddar bunny crackers, you won’t even notice the clear tape. Trust me.
2. Fill the cellophane bags with cheddar crackers.
You can fill the bags with your favorite kind of cheddar crackers. I thought Annie’s Homegrown Cheddar Bunnies would be the perfect choice for carrots going in an Easter basket. What’s more synonymous with Easter than rabbit shaped treats?
3. Make the tops of the carrots.
Use paper Easter grass to create carrot tops. Gather the ends of Easter grass strands and hold them together by wrapping tape around them as shown.
4. Close the bags and attach the carrot tops.
Insert the carrot top into the center of the open end of the cellophane bag and gather the bag around it. Secure it with a twist tie. A green or white twist tie will hide well under ribbon and keep the cheddar bunny carrots fresh until Easter. Tie a festive ribbon around the twist tie to add a final decorative touch.
Your Cheddar Bunny Carrots will look something like this. See! The carrots are so cute, you don’t even notice the clear tape used to make the cellophane bags into cone shapes.
Make as many carrots as you need to accent your child’s Easter basket. Your child will be delighted by the Cheddar Bunny Carrots. You’ll be relieved you found an alternative to Easter candy so he or she isn’t flying high all afternoon from the sugar buzz. That’s a win/win, if you ask me. What’s your favorite non-sugary treat to put in your child’s Easter basket? Please comment and share below.
