Easter Bunny Burlap Wreath: An Easy Craft Idea

Looking for some new decor to decorate your front door this spring? Try making this Easter Bunny Burlap Wreath. Today I’ll show you step-by-step how to make this easy craft.

Most years, we have a special family tradition of spending Easter with my Aunt Ronda and Uncle Bob. They truly go over the top to create a wonderful weekend filled with memory making activities that our boys talk about all year long. Their daughter (my cousin, Jessica) lives just a few doors down from them and is a huge help with planning and preparing for the festivities. To thank them for all their hard work, we like to bring them Easter-themed hostess gifts.

My sister and I love, love, LOVE to make burlap wreaths, so we knew that would be the perfect gift to create for Aunt Ronda and Jessica last year for Easter. Today I’m sharing how my sister and I made our cousin, Jessica’s Easter Bunny Burlap Wreath. I’ll share Aunt Ronda’s wreath in a few weeks so you can see how hers turned out too.

Jessica loves pink and lime green (or at least she used to!) so my sister and I immediately gravitated to those colors for the accent ribbons in her burlap wreath. When we found this cute bunny butt “Welcome Easter” sign at Hobby Lobby, it practically hopped in our cart. We thought for sure it would look like the rabbit was crawling through the hole in the middle of the burlap wreath.

In the next aisle at Hobby Lobby, my sister and I came across a rustic looking bunch of string wrapped carrots. We thought they’d look great on our Easter Bunny Burlap Wreath. If you can’t find a similar bunny butt Easter sign and decorative carrots at your local craft store, I don’t think it would be too difficult to make your own DIY version.

How to Make an Easter Bunny Burlap Wreath

Burlap wreaths are seriously one of the easiest crafts you can make. It only takes my sister and I a few hours to each make one. It’s totally one of those mindless craft activities you can do while you’re catching up on your favorite TV shows or watching a romantic comedy. If you’ve never made one before, I shared a full tutorial for how to make a burlap wreath on Kenarry a few years ago. You can check out that post if you want the specific details and step by step instructions.

What you need: 

• 60 feet of 5″ wide burlap ribbon or garland (20 yards) — NOTE: If you’re making more than one wreath, you can also get a 4-pack of burlap ribbon rolls (40 yards or 120 feet) or a 6-pack of rolls (60 yards or 180 feet) at a discounted rate. • 16″ wire wreath (You could also use an 18 inch wire wreath, but I would add at least a few more yards of burlap if you want your wreath to have a fuller appearance like mine.)
• 1 – 18 foot spool of wide lime green burlap ribbon with white polka dots (6 yards) — I looked online, but couldn’t find the same burlap ribbon. This green polka dot wired ribbon might give your wreath a similar look.
• 1 – 18 foot spool of 1.5″ wide hot pink wired accent ribbon (6 yards)
• Decorative Carrots
• “Welcome Easter” Bunny Sign — I couldn’t find a similar one to ours online. You could DIY a bunny sign or just use a completely different Easter wood sign.
• Faux Easter Eggs — We actually took ours off an Easter garland we found at Hobby Lobby.
• Hot glue gun
• Glue sticks

Instructions:

1. Weave Ribbons Through the Wire Wreath

Attach the burlap ribbon and the two accent ribbons to the wreath frame by tying them to the wires. Carefully twist and weave the ribbons through the wreath frame until you’ve gone all the way around it.

2. Add the sign to the Easter Bunny Burlap Wreath

Since the rabbit sign is really the star of the show on the Easter Bunny Burlap Wreath, we added it next. It had a loop of ribbon to hang it on a nail. We just cut the ribbon in half with a pair of scissors to form two pieces. Then we pushed the pink ribbons through the front of the Easter Bunny Burlap Wreath and tied them in the back around one of the wires in the wreath frame so the bow doesn’t show.

3. Embellish the Burlap Wreath with Easter Eggs

The Easter eggs you see in the photos actually came from Hobby Lobby on a long Easter garland. My sister and I used wire cutters to snip the Easter eggs off the garland. The end where the eggs were originally attached to the garland had a hole where the wire was so that’s where we applied the glue from the hot glue gun. Then we wedged the Easter eggs between loops or folds of the burlap ribbon.

Some of the Easter eggs on the garland were painted and speckled and others were wrapped with string. We used several of both in different shapes and sizes because we really liked the variety. We especially love how the Easter Eggs look like they’re in a big burlap nest!

4. Attach the Decorative Carrots

It took my sister and I awhile to figure out where to put the decorative carrots on the burlap wreath. We thought about putting them in the center at the top or the bottom. Eventually we decided they looked best on the lower right side. They came as a bunch that was glued together. We separated them, then tied the green tops together with a little bit of twine we had in my craft stash. Afterwards we put hot glue on the back of each carrot and gently pressed it on to the burlap to get it to stick.

5. Hang and Enjoy Your Easter Bunny Burlap Wreath

To hang the Easter Bunny Burlap Wreath on a wall, you have a few options. First, you can just hang the wire wreath frame on a long nail right on the wall. Or you could add a loop of hot pink ribbon to the back of the burlap wreath and use that to hang the wreath on your wall. Either way, you now have a beautiful wreath to give a little bit of a rustic touch to your home decor for Easter!
