Hi Kenarry Readers! It’s Jennifer and Kitty O’Neil (the O’Neil Sisters from RunningWithSisters.com), and we’re getting into the holiday spirit with these Colorful Beaded Christmas Ornaments. We made these fun ornaments at our annual Christmas Craft Party, and they were a complete hit! We bought bulk bags of assorted acrylic beads and sequins at the craft store and got the armature wire at the dollar store. Such an inexpensive but pretty craft!
In the video below, we’ll show you how to make these beaded Christmas ornaments step by step. We’ll start by sharing our tips for shaping floral wire into a heart. Then we’ll teach you two simple techniques for adding the colorful beads and sequins. It’s easy!

What you need:
- Aluminum floral wire or armature wire, 12 gauge
- Craft wire, 26 gauge
- Acrylic beads, assorted colors, shapes and sizes
- Sequins, assorted colors, shapes and sizes
- Ribbon, ¼”wide
Tools:
Instructions:
1. Bend The Floral Wire Into A Heart
Cut a 13” piece of floral wire, then find the middle by folding it in half. Grasp the center with round-nose pliers and pull the wire on one side straight. Move the pliers to the straight side of the bend, and pull the other side straight. This bend will be the bottom of the heart.
To shape the top of the heart, curve one end of the wire around something cylindrical about 1” in diameter. (We used a bottle of nail polish.) Curve the other end of the wire around. Slide the wire off and gently pull the curved ends apart to make a heart.
Trim the wire ends so they are even. Twist a little decorative loop into each end with the round-nose pliers. To do this, grasp the end of the wire and curl it into a loop. Repeat to form a loop in the other end of wire.
2. Wrap Heart With Wire
Cut a 40” piece of the 26-gauge craft wire. Fold one end of the wire around the center top of the heart where the two little loops touch. Wrap the wire around the center three or four times to hold the heart together.
3. Wrap Heart With Beads And Sequins
Feed a large sequin onto the thin wire and slide it down to the heart. Hold it in place and wrap the thin wire around the floral wire. Wrap one more time. Feed on a bead, slide it down to the heart, and hold it in place. Wrap around the floral wire. Then add a second wrap. Continue adding beads and sequins with a wrap between each one.
When you add a sequin, wrap the wire the same way even though the wire will show on the front of the sequin. Once you bead the whole heart, no one will ever notice!
4. Tie On A Ribbon Hanger
Fold a 12″ piece of ribbon in half and tie the ribbon one time at the center top of the heart. Tuck the ribbon behind the center bead or sequin. Tie a simple knot at the top of the ribbon to make a hanger. Trim the ends.
Whether you make a heart, a bell, or a star, we’re sure your ornaments will turn out great and add a festive touch to your tree. Let us know if you make these Colorful Beaded Christmas Ornaments at a party or with your family. We’d love to hear how they turned out.
Happy Holidays!
