Craft Tools Needed:

Supplies Needed:

  • Fabric scraps
  • Ribbon
  • Coordinating thread

Instructions:

1. Cut the fabric scraps into squares.

Cut the fabric scraps into 4.5 inch squares. I opted to make bunting that had 9 squares that I spaced 1.5 inches apart. Depending on how long of a bunting you want to make you will adjust the number of squares you cut.

Clearly there are many types of buntings and a lot of them have the pointy triangles but I opted to make one with a different shape. Once you know how to make bunting you can change out the shape to whatever you like.

2. Cut notches into the squares.

Fold the square in half.

Use a quilting ruler or regular ruler to cut along the diagonal line like in the picture below. You are going to line it up going from the top of the folded side to 1 inch down the other side. Do this for each square.

3. Attach the pieces to the ribbon.

Line up your pieces that you cut and arrange them how you like. Clip or pin them to your ribbon. Then sew 1/4 inch from the top edge of the ribbon and 1/4 from the bottom of the ribbon all the way across your banner.

And you’re done! Go hang your cute banner somewhere like on a mantel or the wall in a child’s room. And now that you know how to make bunting you can make one in any shape or size.
