It’s Robin here, from Redo It Yourself Inspirations where I show you how to up-cycle and re-purpose ordinary household items and furniture into new uses or decor. Today, I’d like to share a cardboard recycle project for St. Patrick’s Day. It’s basically creating a shamrock from cardboard hearts!
Making this St. Patrick’s Day craft is super easy, fun and very frugal! It starts with this Dollar Store cardboard decor:
(You can make your own from cardboard or substitute with another design.)
3 Cardboard heart shaped Valentine box lids:
A bunch of greenery and floral tape:
- White Glue
- Mod Podge
- Stapler and staples
- Super Glue
First, cut the leaves into singles to apply onto the cardboard hearts.
Overlap the leaves over the edges and sides with glue.
Decoupage the leaves next with Mod Podge; covering the entire surface.
Allow to dry.
Then to add floral tape to the sides of the hearts, use a stapler to hold it in place. Glue and wrap the green tape around the entire sides.
Then apply Mod Podge to the wrapped sides.
Now super glue the heart points together to create a shamrock.
Then super glue the Celtic Cross or your own design onto the center of the shamrock. Add weight until it’s dry.
Attach a ribbon hanger on the top of the shamrock.
You can even make this into a four leaf clover with 4 hearts. Maybe add pennies in the center, or a pot of pennies.
So many options to make this idea into your own!
And there you have a door hanger or wall plaque that’s up-cycled from recycled materials!
I hope you are inspired and will enjoy making a shamrock from Valentine hearts too!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
