Repurpose paper rolls and decorate for summer at the same time with Upcycled Patriotic Burlap Napkin Rings.
Hey there, Kenarry readers! Summer greetings from me, Trish!! Or happy day before summer for those of you waiting until June 21 to officially declare that summer has arrived. Today I’m sharing an easy tutorial for how to make burlap napkin rings.
How do YOU decipher the change from Spring to Summer anyway? Day? Temperature? Decor? With Memorial Day in May, Flag Day in June and Independence Day in July I often decorate for summer using red, white and blue decor. Enter: Patriotic Napkin Rings made out of repurposed paper rolls.

Supplies:
- Wide Natural Burlap Ribbon (Kenarry’s is my favorite!!)
- Empty Paper Rolls
- Wide Red, White & Blue Ribbon
- Jute Twine (or string of your color choice)
- Silver Stars Charms
- Mod Podge Glue
- Scissors
- Paint Brush
Directions:
Begin by cutting the paper rolls into desired napkin ring height. I cut mine at the 2 1/2 inch mark. Next lay the paper roll on the burlap ribbon then cut the length you need and use a paint brush to coat the outside of the paper roll with glue.
Place the paper roll in the center of the burlap then wrap it around the paper roll. Fold the end piece to create a clean seam before gluing it down. Next add a little glue to the open ends of burlap then fold them inside of the paper roll. Press firmly to ensure the burlap is secure on both the outside and the inside of your napkin ring.
Next measure the size of patriotic ribbon you will need to wrap around each napkin ring. Cut the ribbon to size then secure it to the burlap with Mod Podge glue. Again, fold the end of the ribbon just a bit to create a clean seam before gluing it down.
Wrap the jute (or string) around the napkin ring then tie the ends of the string to secure it in place. Finally string the star onto the jute and tie a bow.
After the glue dries slide napkins into your napkin rings then you are ready to set your red, white and blue table. Speaking of table, if you are in need of a center piece for your patriotic table you can create a matching burlap vase! Follow this upcycled can tutorial; then simply replace the lace with your matching ribbon.
