5 Creative Porch Ideas

On a budget? Want to start small? No problem. Start with an idea or two from the list below for immediate, affordable results.

1. Switch Up or Add New Fabrics

Chances are, you have the same deck or porch furniture you’ve had for years. There’s no problem with this, except that over time, you probably don’t notice it anymore because it’s lost its wow factor. You can get that wow back by adding a few new fabrics.

From furniture cushions to decorative outdoor pillows, look for colors that pop and styles that match the ambiance you hope to create with your outdoor space. A few new cushions can go a long way to refreshing your porch.

2. Go Green

Even if you don’t have a green thumb, adding a hanging basket or planter to your porch can help make it feel more welcoming and attractive for your family and visitors. If your porch is covered, remember to water your plants on a regular basis and look for varieties that don’t require full sun.

Great porch plants include:

  • Hostas
  • Ferns
  • Impatiens
  • Camellia
  • Begonias

3. Add an Awning

Just because you’re limited in floor space doesn’t mean you can’t look up. Waterproof awnings can add a splash of style and color while shading your outdoor space and keeping the inside a little cooler. Changing the color of your house might be a big undertaking, but adding awnings isn’t.

Awnings come in a variety of shapes, patterns and fabrics. Talk to a distributor to find out which would be best for your porch and to learn care instructions to make your porch awnings last longer.

4. Chill in a Hanging Hammock

Perhaps you’re looking for that one item to give you the utter relaxation you need to recoup every night. Hammock chairs are very affordable and can give your porch a punch of color while offering a peaceful escape from the world for you.

Don’t have a tree to hang it on? No problem, you can buy a stand to hang it on.

5. Look for New Lighting Options

The great thing about porch lighting is that it doesn’t have to require extensive or expensive installations. Many porch lights and fixtures can be placed and then forgotten about, especially with solar options available. Hanging lanterns, candles, tiki torches floor lamps, table lamps and garden path lighting are all options to add new light to your porch space.

Now is the time to consider sprucing up your porch for the spring and summer months. Start with the options above for simple changes that go a long way.
