Simple DIY Cloth Napkins You Can Whip Up Quickly

Hey y’all, it’s Cat from Mary Martha Mama. The holidays are coming and I love this season of gathering together and enjoying meals with loved ones. I enjoy setting a beautiful table and made my own DIY Cloth Napkins help set these special meals apart. Using this simple tutorial you can make some too!

There’s more than one way to sew your own cloth napkins but I find this to be the easiest way since you don’t have to fool with folding and sewing tiny hems.

How to Make DIY Cloth Napkins

I chose to make my napkins from beautiful linen in rich fall colors but you can make the napkins from whatever fabrics and colors you feel will work best for your tablescape.

fabric (I used linen)
coordinating thread

Instructions:

1. Prepare the fabric

Wash, dry, and iron your fabric. Linen has some texture to it so you will still have some wrinkles even after ironing.

2. Cut the fabric

For one napkin you will cut out two squares that measure 17 inches. This will give you a finished napkin of 16 inches square. By making DIY Cloth Napkins of this size I was able to get 2 napkins from a 1/2 yard or 5 napkins from one yard because my fabric was 54 inches wide.

3. Sew the two squares together

Lay one piece of fabric down with the right side up. Then lay the other piece on top with the right side down. Pin them together and, sewing 1/2 inch from the edge, sew almost all the way around the square, but leave a few inches un-sewn.

4. Turn the napkin right side out

Clip the corners and trim the threads. Then using the hole that you left un-sewn turn the napkin right side out.

5. Press and topstitch the napkin

Give the napkin a good press with your iron. Then topstitch all around the napkin, sewing 1/4 inch from the edge. Trim your threads and you’re done making your very own DIY Cloth Napkins.
