How’s your Summer going, friends? I’m Rita Joy, and I’ve had the organization bug over here at Harbour Breeze Home. The warmer weather has spurred me on to finish up some projects that have been weighing on my mind.
The biggest task to date was to get a handle on our garage organization. It was a hot mess! Among many (many!) other things, the garage holds a wardrobe that contains my seasonal decor.
However, it wasn’t working well at all. And to add to the confusion, I needed to find a spot for all those cleaning supplies on the floor!
Here’s how I organized my seasonal decor:
1. First, I took everything out of the cupboard and grouped like items together. I then assessed what I wanted to keep and what I wanted to get rid of.
2. Once I had the collection pared down, I asked my husband to install a few more shelves into the wardrobe. There was so much wasted space in there!
3. Then I chose a shelf for each grouping and started loading items in.
I grouped items together by type ~ like cleaning supplies, large kitchen bowls, trays, & frames.
For the specific decor items, I grouped them together on shelves by color.
In the end, the cupboard not only looks neater, but it’s so much easier to find things!
I now understand why many people in town never park in their garage! It’s a valuable storage & work space for those of us who don’t have basements or crawl spaces.
We have big plans for our garage makeover, and thankfully step one is done.
We can finally see the floor!:)
