Supplies and optional tools:

1. Choose, Download and Print

First, you’ll have to download the printable PDF file of the banner you prefer – either navy or pink. Each letter appears on a letter-sized page, so you can easily print at home or go to a copy shop if you prefer professional prints, especially for thicker paper.

Personally, I print on regular printer paper and it works just fine for most purposes.

Printing tips:

When printing at home, remember to choose the fit to page size and you’ll be able to trim your birthday banner printables afterward. However, when I’m in a hurry, I don’t even bother to trim the paper and use the full page as-is. You’ll just have a more polished look if you have time to trim all the white spaces and borders off.

Before hitting the print button, select the best print quality possible and check your print preview just in case. Even with regular home office printers, these days I find the quality is very high and perfectly fine for decoration purposes.

I personally have an HP printer that works with the HP Instant Ink service, so it’s super affordable and easy to print full-color printables. I don’t have to worry about using too much ink or running out, because I have the subscription that gives me 100 pages for $5. I think it’s a great deal and highly suggest you check it out if you like printing at home. There are often deals when you buy a new printer that is compatible and you might even get a discount off the subscription.

2. Trim birthday banner printable pages to size

Once you have your banner pages printed out, use scissors or a paper trimmer to cut each banner down to size if you want a more polished look. But again, when in a pinch, I skip this step and use the full page. The design still looks great!

2. finish your birthday banner

With all your birthday banner pages trimmed and ready to go, think about how you might want to display the greeting. Is your party space large enough to show the entire “Happy Birthday” phrase on one line? Or do you want to break it up into two lines “Happy” then “Birthday” or so on?

Honestly, it really depends on your party space and what you want to show off. Sometimes I use banners outside the doorway to show guests where the party is happening. And other times I use banners to create a unique backdrop for a photo booth area. These are super popular nowadays because everyone loves a good photo op!

Bunting Tips

Once you have each letter of your banner ready, you can use a hole puncher to punch two holes at the top of each page. This will allow you to string through twine and create a bunting banner that is easy to hang up. It really helps when you like the arched shape lettering on a wall or doorway.

By the way, if you can’t find a spot to tie off the ends of your bunting string, consider using removable command hooks. I’m a big fan of those hooks because it basically means you can put a banner anywhere and remove them after the party is over. Easy peasy!

Of course, if you don’t want to bother with hole punching and string, simply use tape to attach each page of your birthday banner to a wall. This might actually work better for some unique surfaces. For example, you can nail paper onto wooden surfaces or trees when it comes to outdoor parties and woodland areas. Let your creativity run wild when it comes to decorating!

Frequently Asked questions

How do you hole punch without a hole puncher?

If you don’t have a hole puncher, you can use a pushpin and an eraser. Place the paper on top of the eraser and push the pin through the paper to the eraser. As you pull it out, you’ll see a little hole that you can use for string.

Where can you print signs?

There are still lots of places that will print signs for you pretty inexpensively. Office Depot, Staples, UPS, and FedEx office are all great options.

What type of paper is best for party signs?

If you are going to keep the signs for a while, use a thicker paper like card stock. You might even want to invest in laminating them so they last even longer.
