Looking for an inexpensive art supply storage idea? Save one of those medium sized Pringles cans and turn it into a cute little DIY pencil holder.
Hey y’all, it’s Cat from Mary Martha Mama. I don’t know about you, but I’m always on the hunt for inexpensive storage and organization solutions. We have a heap of art supplies around here for our kids and so recently I made some DIY pencil holders to help organize their art supplies.
This is a bit of a variation on the idea of using tin cans or mason jars to store pencils. I prefer this to using the mason jars because of the hazards of the glass and the possible sharp edge of the can.
How to Make A DIY Pencil Holder
To make these you are going to need some empty Pringles cans so your first step is really going to be to eat some chips.

Craft Tools Needed:
Supplies Needed:
- scrapbook paper
- hot glue gun sticks
- potato chip canister
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Containers
After you eat your chips you will want to clean out the containers of any crumbs and wipe them out.
2. Cut the Paper to Size
Measure your Pringles container’s height and circumference. That will give you the dimensions you need for your paper. For example, my DIY pencil holder measured 4.5 inches tall. I cut my paper so that it was also 4.5 inches tall and wide enough to go all the way around the can and overlap itself a little.
2. Attach the Paper
Draw a line of hot glue from top to bottom on the container and press one edge of your paper onto it. Press down for a bit to make sure it’s cool and set before you continue.
Wrap your paper around the container and draw a vertical line of glue on the back of the paper near the edge. Then press it down firmly on top of the container so that it’s wrapped around nice and tight.
Now you’re all done!
