Fall Mantel Decor Ideas: Orange and Yellow Accents

Hey there! Today we’re sharing fall mantel decor ideas to update a fireplace for autumn with pumpkin orange and harvest yellow accents! These easy ideas will have your living room ready for Halloween, Thanksgiving and all the fun events of the season.

At the beginning of this year, I embraced the idea of putting more effort into changing our fireplace mantel seasonally. We had the same basic mantel decor for nearly ten years, so it was overdue to be updated. My goal this year has been to create a big visual impact with just small mantel decor changes to keep the cost low. Here’s a reminder of what we started with:

In the winter, we made the biggest changes with a white framed mirror,  new candle holders, a large white owl vase, and a small vase. We also replaced one of the picture frames. At that time, we intentionally chose some basic white pieces that could be used year-round and then accented with seasonal colors and foilage.

Here’s a look back at the seasonal mantels we’ve done so far:

Winter Mantel Decor – We used rustic red, bare branches with red berries and red hydrangeas.

Spring Mantel Decor – We used an arrangement of refreshing green eucalyptus and lavender, as well as green hydrangeas and sage green candles.

Summer Mantel Decor – We went with a beach or nautical theme using a turquoise blue or teal color and hot pink along with coastal elements like sisal rope, shells, tall beach grass and a large pelican.

I don’t know about you but fall may just be my favorite season. There’s something about getting back into the routine of school and every day life that I just love after the summer. The warm reds, oranges and yellows that begin to emerge as the leaves change colors just makes me smile. I enjoy the hayrides, pumpkin patch and warm apple cider with donuts. As I thought about our fall mantel decor, I wanted to capture that warm feeling and those rich colors in my choices.

Using simple white decorative pieces on our mantel works great for easily changing our fall mantel decor when the new season rolled around. Once I chose pumpkin orange, harvest yellow and warm reds for the colors, I just had to switch out a few things. First, I replaced the tall beach grasses in the owl vase, with an arrangement of tall red and yellow straw or grass and a few sheafs of wheat.

Next, I swapped the hot pink flowers in the small white vase with dark orange hydrangeas. I love how deep and rich the color in these flowers is. I filled the vase a little more than I have in previous seasons so the flowers would cascade a little over the side.

After that, I traded the ombre turquoise blue candles with the orange ones I originally had on the mantel before I started changing it out seasonally. The orange candles are a little shorter than the ones I used in other seasons, but it’s really nice (and budget friendly) to be able to use the candles I already had. I also placed a small white ceramic pumpkin by the candle holders. Pumpkins just make everything look more like “fall”, don’t they?

In the summer, I had a rustic pelican on the mantel so I couldn’t resist when I saw this perky little orange fox at Hobby Lobby.

While I was at Hobby Lobby, I also picked up this fall colored “Welcome” sign. There’s an electric outlet on the top of the mantel. It’s awesome for holiday lights at Christmas time, but looks a little out of place the rest of the year. I’m short enough that I don’t notice it most of the time, but every now and again I’ve thought I ought to get a short sign or something to hide it.

Throughout the seasonal changes this year, I’ve kept the large mirror and the picture frames since they’re neutral and can really coordinate well with any color. If I was going to change the mirror, I think this Copper Sunflower Mirror would look awesome, don’t you?

As I stand back and look at the fall mantel decor, I love how the colors look with the golden yellow paint on our living room walls. I do wonder whether the orange candles on the right should be taller? Or maybe I should try using the big candle holders I originally had on the mantel for the last decade. Those colors would probably go well with our fall mantel decor.

In the next few months, I’ll have to decide how I want to decorate our mantel for the holidays. That’s the one season in the last ten years when I actually completely changed our mantel decor. Perhaps I can combine the home decor I’ve used in previous Christmas seasons with some elements from my winter mantel decor to come up with a beautiful solution without buying anything new? Please comment below and share your thoughts. • White Ceramic Pumpkin – This decorative pumpkin on Amazon is similar. If you have an electric outlet in your mantel like I do, I think this antique white pumpkin with star cut outs would be fun.
• Resin Fox Statue – I got ours locally at Hobby Lobby, but this sitting fox figurine on Amazon looks similar. If you want something a little different, you could go with this fantastic fox figurine or this ceramic white fox.
• Large Red and Yellow Straw/Grasses – I also got ours at Hobby Lobby and couldn’t find them online. Amazon does sell artificial sprigs that look similar, but it’s difficult to tell quality level from the photos and most have not been rated by other customers yet. If your walls aren’t yellow like mine, you could also just do bundled wheat sheaves or a sunflower arrangement for fall.
• Orange Hydrangea Floral Pick – You could also use one of these orange artificial hydrangeas though Amazon doesn’t show any reviews.
