As soon as the holiday season is over, I change out the Christmas wreath on the front door and replace it with a winter wreath. This snowy hoop style wreath is a budget-friendly DIY as it uses floral stems purchased at the end of season clearance sale at the craft store.

Easy Winter Wreath Tips

Lay out the stems for placement

The easiest way to make a wreath is to lay the floral stems out so they are even on both sides. Once you have the placement set, you can go back in and secure them with hot glue or floral wire.

The larger items should be secured first with floral wire with the smaller stems being placed on top with hot glue to ensure they are secure.

At this point, I usually hang the wreath up and step back to take a look and see if I’m pleased with the placement. You can always add additional pieces with hot glue while it is up. That is when the cordless glue gun really comes in handy!

Mix up stems with different texture

To give your winter wonderland wreath lots of dimension, it helps to include floral stems and picks with a mix of texture. Include berries, pine cones, cotton stems and other winter decor to really make the wreath pop.

You can choose to add a focal point to the center of the wreath as shown in this tutorial with the pretty silver deer. Or you can add a large winter bow to fill in this space. The hoop wreath is not meant to be covered totally. It is more of a modern style wreath so you want to choose your pieces carefully, only adding stems you really love.

One way I keep costs down on crafting is to shop the after Christmas sales. There are so many craft items and supplies that may be marked as Christmas but can be used for winter.

All of these stems were 70% off. If you have room for storage, it’s a great way to stock up on supplies for next Christmas too.
