When giving gifts I really want the gift to be something that can be used and won’t add to the clutter of a house. Do you feel like sometimes you just have too much clutter? Because I do! I want gifts to be something that can be used and appreciated.

Mother’s Day Picture Frame Tips:

How to Paint with glitter paint

Glitter paint is not like regular paint. It’s not something that is painted. It’s normally thicker and a little bit stickier than regular paint.

hand holding a wood letter S, the top part of the S has glitter paint on it. The background has wood letters, paint brushes, and paint.

The paint part of glitter paint is clear, so the color below will show through. If you want the letters to not be wood colored, they will need one to two coats of paint in a coordinating color before painting on the glitter paint.

To paint on the glitter paint, glob it on. It’s best to put a few globs around and then use the paint brush to push and pull the individual glitter pieces around the letters. The first coat of glitter paint will be sparse. To have more solid glitter, add more coats.

Always let the paint dry between each coat. Think of glitter paint as adding a top layer of glitter accents rather than creating a solid layer of only glitter.

Never freak out on the first coat of paint

The first coat of paint is always a mess. I can’t tell you how many projects I’ve started that first coat of paint and questioned everything. I’ve painted walls and furniture, wood and ceramics. The first coat is always rough.

Don’t freak out. For something like a wood picture frame, the paint is going to get absorbed differently across the whole piece. It will need multiple coats.

So if the paint looks really patchy and thin, do not try to glob on more paint! That’s the worst thing that can be done. It will create an uneven surface and could lead to drips in the paint. Paint it on thin and as consistent as possible. Then let it fully dry and add more thin, even layers.

Some projects will take multiple coats of paint. This picture frame took 4. Some will take only 2. It can depend on the material being painted, color, and type of paint. But no matter what don’t freak out. It will be okay in the end.
