Learn how to make an adorable ornament gift card holder out of an embroidery hoop – everyone will love it!
Hello! I’m Michelle back from from Our Crafty Mom with a fun embroidery hoop Christmas ornament that serves double duty as a gift card or money holder. While I made this ornament with my little nieces in mind, you can easily change out the colors and image used for something more neutral.
If you are giving gift cards or cash this holiday season, step it up a notch with a cool DIY gift card holder. It’s so much better than just handing over an envelope. Plus, you can personalize it with the recipient’s favorite animal and colors. I could totally see a fun superhero like spiderman or batman for the boys.
How to Make AN Ornament GIFT CARD HOLDER
One of the things that’s great about this gift card holder, is you can really use whatever supplies you have on hand. While I used felt, you could also use fabric scraps, or even book pages if you want.

tips for making a gift card holder ornament
These are some of my best tips for making these easy crafts.

- Personalize the ornament for the recipient
- Be creative with what you place in the holder. You can add cash, gift cards, tickets, or make adult ones and include scratch tickets.
DIY Gift Card Holder Step-by-step pictures
All of the exact steps and supplies are in the printable craft card at the bottom of this post. First, I am going to show you how I made these ornaments with some helpful pictures of each step.
Add glitter to the embroidery hoop
First, use a foam brush to add Mod Podge to the wood frame of the embroidery hoop. Sprinkle glitter onto the frame.
cut the felt to size
Place the embroidery hoop on top of the felt and cut a square a little larger than the hoop.
Add the felt to the embroidery hoop
Open the hoop by loosening the screw. Place the cut felt into the hoop and tighten the screw so it is secure.
cut the glitter paper to size
Cut a piece of glitter paper to fit the back of the hoop and trim it so it is rounded around the edges.
hot glue the paper to the hoop
Attach the cut glitter paper to the frame with hot glue.
cut out the vinyl image with your cutting machine
I used my Cricut Joy to cut an adorable floral deer SVG from Cricut Design Space. But, you can use whatever cutting machine you have and whatever graphic you like.
add the svg to the front of the hoop.
Attach the SVG to the front center of the felt. I used permanent vinyl, so it was very easy to secure it.
cut a ribbon for hanging
Hot glue a bow to the top of the hoop ornament and a ribbon for hanging.
Isn’t this such a cute idea for holiday gift giving? It’s easy and inexpensive to make, and can be used as an ornament next year.
