Fun to make turkey place settings.

I’m always looking for fresh new ideas to make the holiday table special, and this year I wanted to add personalized place settings.  The hubby says that we know each other’s names, otherwise why the heck would we even hang out together?  True.  But place settings are cool because if you are in charge, you get to sit next to who you want.  Right?  You can’t fault my logic.  (At least the hubby isn’t allowed to).  So place settings it is!

Wooden clothes pins that will become a turkey's tail

Create the Turkey tail

The very first step is to create the turkey’s tail.

These are the ingredients you’ll need. All the exact amounts are in the printable card at the bottom of this post.

Wooden clothes pins that are glued together.

Use hot-glue to attach two more clothespins to the back, placing them over the space created by the beads.

Creating the Turkey Body

Use hot-glue to attach the wooden ball to the front of the tail. Glue an acorn on top to create the head of the turkey.

It doesn’t look too much like a turkey yet, but a little paint will make our turkey come to life!

Painting the turkey

Painting the Turkeys

Use acrylic paint to add color to the turkeys. I used orange, red, and yellow for the tail and brown for the head and body. Allow the paint to dry before going to the next step.

Adding Final Details to the Turkeys

Clip a teardrop shape of red felt for the turkey wattle. Clip a triangle of yellow felt for the turkey beak. Use white glue to attach the beak and wattle to each turkey. Use white glue and white beads to create the eyes.

A place card that says

To create the name tag, print out the names of your guests and cut them out in 3/4″ x 1-1/2″ rectangles. Use white glue to attach the paper name tags to the wooden rectangles. Use hot-glue to attach the wooden name tag to the body of the turkey as shown above.

Place the Turkey into the Clear Ornament

Place the turkey into one half of the clear ornament, pushing it towards the back. Snap the other half of the clear ornament to the front. The turkey is big enough that it should not move around in the ornament.

Finishing the Thanksgiving Place settings

Use hot-glue to attach two fake leaves to the top of a canning lid. Attach the clear ornament with turkey onto the center of the lid with hot glue. Use hot-glue to attach a couple of mini pinecones to the lid for a final touch.
