First thing I thought of first was function: I hated having to move all of our yard furniture every time we mowed so I wanted something our furniture could sit on. Second thing was safety, I wanted a fire pit we didn’t have to worry about still smoldering a little bit when we went to bed. Also, I didn’t want a fire pit that (if not used) would fill full of grass and weeds. Everything pointed to the free pile of sand we had in our backyard, we made ourselves a beachy fire pit!
I decided to tackle my teen daughter’s bedroom and redo it into a space she would love to hang out in and have friends over. The idea I was working with was a brightly colored, modern bedroom with gold accents. We created a lounge area with the beds that will be perfect for accommodating guests for sleepovers and made a bold statement in the the closet with a removable wallpaper.

Like many old houses that cling on to their original fixtures the wind howls through the gaps in the old doors and the windows rattle. To minimize the draughts, I make my own DIY draught excluders for both my doors and windows. They are made by upcycling old jeans. I also added a bit of humour to them by stenciling on a pun or two.
