Make a super simple 10 minute craft with this beautiful DIY floral hanging rattan basket perfect for all summer long! It will look so pretty hanging on your front door, or inside over a mantel or buffet table.
Hello! Michelle back from Our Crafty Mom. With summer right around the corner, I wanted to share a really quick floral basket DIY to welcome the summer season, without taking all day to make. That way you can focus on summer barbecues, and hopefully, relaxing outdoors.
The great thing about this floral basket is it doesn’t look like a 10-minute craft. It’s seriously something that you would see in pretty home stores and marketplaces. If you haven’t heard the news…rattan is back and better than ever! This 80’s girl couldn’t be happier.
How to Make A Floral Hanging rattan Basket
Gather your favorite silk flowers and let’s make a pretty floral door hanger. You can even use real flowers for this (I will show you a trick)!

Prepare your flowers
The first thing you want to do is trim your flowers so they are the right size for the basket. A great way to do this is to hold the basket up and measure the flower next to it. Use wire cutters to snip off the length that you don’t need.
If you are using fresh flowers, the same process applies. Just be sure to trim the flowers at an angle and also snip into the center of the stem so it can drink up all that water. And, hopefully, stay alive a little longer. There is nothing worse than having beautiful flowers that die in just a couple of days!

When I first made this basket, I fully intended to use floral foam to secure the flowers so they would stand properly in the basket. However, I had a mason jar filled with fresh eucalyptus, so just for the heck of it, I checked to see if the mason jar fit in the rattan basket. I did a little happy dance when I found the pint-sized mason jar fit perfectly!
So, instead of having to use floral foam, I was able to place the flowers in the mason jar and place them inside the basket. So, you can totally use fresh flowers with water in the mason jar, and change them out as often as you like.
Or, you can stick with silk flowers. This also makes it a temporary craft, so you can easily change it from season to season.
I love how it looks hanging on my favorite antique window.

Instructions
- Trim your flowers to fit the length of the basket using wire cutters.
- Place the flowers in the mason jar. If using fresh flowers, add water to the mason jar.
- Place the mason jar in the rattan basket.
- Hang your beautiful floral basket!
